WEEK 8: NEW PR TECHNOLOGY IN TODAY’S 2.0 WORLD BY IYLIA AZIZ


Public Relations (PR) professionals’ tasks does not only depends on press release, press conference, and other writings and maintaining relationship with the targeted audience.  In this new era of life, PR professionals can help their companies or clients track down their targeted audience and the public is by using the new media.

It is said that the new media reaches audience faster than traditional media.  This is because people use internet and technology often and they rely on it on their daily basis.  One of the new media that could be a good medium to get and disseminate information is by using blog. 

Blogging is the best medium as people tend to use blog to get information and some who has their own blog, likes to share it using blogs.  It is also the fastest way for the PR professionals to get through the media gatekeepers and get reach of the public and audience.  By using blogs also, the PR professionals could add some added value to the stories. According to InfoWorld research, people use it to receive information besides using print publication as a source of gaining new information and maybe clarification of one subject.

Podcasting is also another medium that PR professionals nowadays use to disseminate information as it offers controlled production and messaging. It is inexpensive and a good medium in promoting a problem and evangelizing the solution.  It is even measurable as you can measure how many people have downloaded the podcast. 

Besides blogging and podcasting, other new media such as webinars, RSS news feeds, Twitter, YouTube, and other social media is also important as it is another medium to get connected with people and at the same time receive two-communication.

New media has actually change the way people work and think and when PR professionals and firms uses the new media as a medium to get reach and feedbacks from the audience and the public.
