Week 7: How to Measure Social Media Relations: The More Things Change, the More They Remain the Same. by Nurul Syifaa Bt Mohd Ridzwan Goh


The internet has brought our world becoming flexible and faster for human to separate and giving information. The marketing strategies have changed rapidly in used of social media and the e-commerce website. The public relations practitioner also needs to open their eyes of the revolutionary of internet as a new medium. According to Cluetrain Manifesto (Locke, Levine, Searls, and Weinberger) and Naked Conversations (Scoble, Israel), the consumers are the media, the editors and the reviewers and they are in control and they’re going to let people know what they think by changing their behaviour.

In the journal, being noticed that 98% of internet users go online to get information before purchasing or buying product. The used of social media such as Second Life, Twitter, Flickr, Facebook, blog and other forms of content sharing at exceptional levels. There are types of outcomes to measuring our own blog that the users need to follow, which are measuring how blogs affect people’s behaviour and relationships, financial outcomes, relationship outcomes, and other outcomes at the most basic level. The outtakes is how the social capital and social networking measures, and the outputs of measuring the blogs is how many people are paying attention to your blog? The same things go to measuring our existence on other peoples’ blogs we also need to measure the outcomes, outtakes and the output. 

As a blogger we need to know the new things to make our blogs up-to-date and attract others attention. Public relations practitioner need also know how to measure in the blogosphere. The social networking sites can helps the relationship between the organization and consumer become clearer and easily access to get new information. It is especially for new products and services. As a public relations practitioner, they can create the PSA video and upload it on YouTube. From that, the message can be delivered straight to the audiences. Users must follow the ethics and regulation while creating and putting information on the blog or other social media relations. Sometimes, sensitive issues can create and involve to the conflict. Apart from what the organization does or who its constituencies are, the revolution that social media is creating will closer or later have an impact. The impact refers to the content of data and responds from others. The measuring of new media is needed to know the effectiveness of using new media.
